Today is a very special day in our school. Today is the 10th anniversary of the opening of The Meadow classes here in Johnstown. The Meadow has three classes catering for children with autism. There are six pupils in each class. We opened 10 yrs. ago with an old prefab and a container.
We had a lot to learn and a lot of work to do. Fr. Peadar Murney turned the sod on the new building two years later, and what we now know as The Meadow building was opened on 10/06/2014. We, as a school, are very proud of the education provision for all pupils in the school, but in particular the pupils in The Meadow. The staff that work there on a daily basis do an outstanding job and should be congratulated on a day like today. One third of the teaching staff in our school has taught in The Meadow.
We are particularly fortunate to have such highly qualified, highly trained, and dedicated staff who work with all children with complex needs in the school. We are also very proud of the assistance and support we provide to schools all over the country who embark on a project such as this.
To the parent body of the school, the Board of Management past and present, The JPA Parents’ Association, the local community, the Bus Drivers and Bus Escorts we also say a huge thank you today. Your support from day one has been and continues to be tremendous.
We look forward to continued success in The Meadow for many years to come.
